propeller

(propellers from scrapped ships used to be erected as monuments): a fragment of a larger artificium — material or not — which is sufficiently compact, self-contained, and meaningfully complex (“a downtown of lived complexity”) to be salvaged and museumed; let the rest, too bulky to be a symbol of itself, dissolve away.
